In Calcutta, a famous city of India , a printer for the blind called Trinayan was invented by some technology enthusiasts. This Braille embossing system can perform embossing jobs unmanned.
You can attach this device to a Windows-based computer, just like any printer. While a Perkins Brailler will cost you a few lakh rupees, Trinayan comes for around Rs 75,000. That is quite inexpensive especially when it is comparable to Perkins Brailler in terms of its work efficiency. But the same old obstacle has put the sophistication of Trinayan on the back burner. High production cost and lack of bulk orders and paucity of funds has rendered the proposition non-viable for the developers. This is what I did not anticipate in a country like India. Scientists should be supported and promoted. Trinayan could have illuminated the life of blind people, if it had been supported in the way it was required.
